Ray’s Top Picks

Best of the Week: Irredeemable #5 – I’m diggin’ this ongoing series, and I especially like how the price and the beginning of this new arc welcomes the new readers.

Most Anticipated: Blackest Night #2 – After witnessing the Dibnys steal the show in the previous issue, I can’t wait to see who rises next.

Other Picks: Batman: Blackest Night #1, Grene Lantern Corps #39, Red Robin #3,  Amazing Spider-Man #602, The Marvels Project #1, Ultimate Comics Avengers #1,

Best of the Past Week: Invincible Iron Man #16 & Hack/Slash #24 – The dialogue between Tony Stark and Madame Masque in Invincible Iron Man #16 was awesome. While, Hack/Slash #24 renewed my faith in the series in a big way.

Most Anticipated:Unwritten #4 & Hack/Slash #25 – Unwritten #4 scores a spot for being another issue of what is easily one of the most intelligent comics currently in print. Hack/Slash #25 scores a spot for being a double-sized issue and for promising a reveal about the origin of slashers.

Other Top Picks: The Walking Dead #64, G-Man: Cape Crisis #1, Deadpool #13, Uncanny X-Men #514, Dead @ 17: Afterbirth #3, Marvel Divas #2, and Ms. Marvel #43

Pick of the Week: Invincible Iron Man #16 – Not usually the biggest fan of this series. Don’t get me wrong: it is good, sometimes even great, but just not my cup of tea as Stark became the most over-saturated character in comics. However, this issue blew me away with its character development and unbelievable pacing. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with Tony next.

Most Anticipated: Blackest Night #2/ Ultimate Comics Avengers#1 – I never have a tie for Most Anticipated, but Johns’ ongoing zombie horror is addicting and engaging, while Millar’s past run on the Ultimates was one of my favorite series of all-time.

Other Picks: Amazing Spider-Man #602; Blackest Night Batman #1; Green Lantern Corps #39; Red Circle Inferno #1; Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1; Uncanny X-Men #514; Unwritten #4; Walking Dead #64; Wednesday Comics #6

Best of the Week: Captain America: Reborn #2 – A much improved issue; the fact that Brubaker may very well do the impossible by making a completely ridiculous plot-device into something touching and entertaining makes this pick of the week.

Most Anticipated: Hellboy: Wild Hunt #5 – Oh, Mike Mignola.  You’ve teased me enough by making me wait this long between issues.  I’m ready to get back into Wild Hunt again, which has thus far lived up to Hellboy’s high standards with ease.  The fact that #4 ended on a cliffhanger makes me even more desperate for this issue.

Other Picks: DMZ #44, The Unwritten #4, Fables #87, Blackest Night #2, Uncanny X-Men #514, Green Lantern Corps #39, The Walking Dead #64, The Astounding Wolf-Man #18

Best of the Past Week: Secret Warriors #6 – Incredible artwork, fantastic dialogue, and plot twists that hook like none other…Secret Warriors is without a doubt the best thing to come out of that whole Secret Invasion thing.

Most Anticipated: Pax Romana TPB and Invincible Iron Man #16 (Tie) – I’ve heard nothing but good things about Jonathan Hickman’s Pax Romana so it easily gets a spot in the “Most Anticipated” column.  Invincible Iron Man scores a spot because the thrilling “World’s Most Wanted” arc has yet to let me down.

Other Top Picks: Hack/Slash #24, Exiles #5 (you will be missed), Agents of Atlas #9, Destroyer #5, Wednesday Comics

Pick of the Week: Detective Comics #855- Good story with great character and great, great art. Williams has replaced Quietley, in my opinion, as being the best artist on a book right now.

Most Anticipated: War of Kings #6 – The conclusion of what has been the best event of the year and one of the best comics on the stands every month.

Other Picks: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #601; CAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN #2; DESTROYER #5; HULK #13; INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #16; IRREDEEMABLE #5; RED CIRCLE THE HANGMAN #1; THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY #2; WAR OF KINGS WARRIORS #2; WEDNESDAY COMICS #5

Tony’s Picks

Best of the Past Week: Iron Man vol 2: World’s Most Wanted HC – I am just amazed at how this continues to be one of the finest monthly comics being produced right now.  Riding high off the incredibly dull event storyline that is “Dark Reign”, Fraction severely depowers Stark, alienates him from everything and everyone he ever cared about, and gives him a fascinating new villain in the form of Norman Osborn.  Strongly recommended.

Most Anticipated for this Week: Although I am looking forward to seeing what Warren Ellis’s original graphic novel Frankenstein’s Womb has to offer, I’m most excited to get my hands on Agents of Atlas vol 1, another title that has managed to delight and entertain with every issue.

Other Top Picks: Wednesday Comics #5, Doom Patrol #1

Alex’s Top Picks

Best of the Week: Northlanders #19 – One of the best comics on the stands, the Shield Maidens two-parter has been absolutely fantastic.  Blending real world history with myth in a way that feels entirely fresh and uniquely whole, this is great stuff.

Most Anticipated: Agents of Atlas #9 – Agents of Atlas has been at its best when pursuing their own distinct, fringe storylines and I expect that trend to continue this issue.  No Avengers, no Captain America, just kooky, retro action.

Other Picks: Captain America: Reborn #2, Greek Street #2, The Destroyer #5
